attention all smokers

i wanna swing from trees
i wanna do backhandsprings

i want to teach my daughter how to do these things
and teach her how to throw a curveball

how to spike a volleyball
bump, set, spike
and serve

i want to teach her the cheers
and give her my cheerleading uniform

to teach her to skate
and dance on her toes
triple axle
pike jump

i cant stop smoking
and its killing me
and it will take me away from my baby girl

she tells me everyday
" mom, if you dont stop snoking you will die"
she is three
and she is smarter than I

i wanna quit, but(here comes my great excuse) whenever i get stressed out and start to go into panic attack mode the only thing that calms me down is a smoke.

If I can quit, anyone can. The smell is what finally did me in. Couldn't stand the way I smelled anymore.

I quit and restarted many times, but like you it was my daughter that made me stop for good. She said exactly the same thing. It was something like, "Daddy I love you and I'd die if you died. Please stop smoking." That was pretty much it. Occasionaly I still lapse and have a couple, but I don't see that as failing I just try and forget it and not have another. Even if you don't completely give up 5 a month is better than 20 a day.

i think my daughter and the smell are whats gonna do it for me. i work in a smoke free environment and i know i stink when i get back in from break.

wbb, how can you have just one after quitting? that would drive me nuts. after my daughter was born i didnt smoke for 7 days then i got out of the hospital and had one. i reaked! but i continued to smoke and i cant stop. i probably could stop but im scared of the weight gain and the crabbiness.

My boyfriend has been almost smoke-free for a year (October 13th!), I say almost because on the rare occasions that I drink, once every two months or so, he gets to have a vice-for-a-vice cigarette or two. He really had to change patterns to quit though, when stressed he couldn't go for a drive because he would want to smoke. It wasn't easy though and he still gets crabby, but he got sick of me telling him how much he reeked. I wish you the best of luck, I don't know what it feels like to be addicted, but I do know that it's nice not to be, so I send you best wishes...

i don't smoke, so any advise i would have to offer would be pointless. of course it would be easy for me to say 'quit', being as i don't know what being a smoker is like. good luck!

i agree with sandra. i have never smoked, so it`s easy for me to say "quit". however, i`m sure there are health institutions nearby where they can help you to quit. i think you are ready for it, since you know the importance of quitting. good luck!

I quit for two years once by twirling a baton instead of lighting up whenever I had the urge. $2 at a toy store.

I started smoking more than a pack a day when I was twelve and now I only smoke one if I have a drink or if I get really pissed off, so a pack lasts me on average a month or more and I keep them in the freezer where they stay fresh.

HAving the odd one is usually preceded by 6 or so beers, and that's when my self control goes out the window.

You're right about the smell too.

great! it really did the trick for me, and I got addicted to it - brought that thing with me everywhere, shopping for groceries, school, work, parties - it got out of hand when I started doing it out of car windows when my friends were driving, I dropped it a few times and made them go back and get it.

i quit and restart all the time.

my problem is that i smoke when i drink- and this past summer i've gone out with friends/mark/family two or three times a week and i chainsmoke like a disgusting pig when i have a drink in my hand.

so basically i need to quit drinking.

nah wait....that's just crazy talk.

You know it's been over a month since I quit, cold turkey. I notice that I'm not stuffing my face like I was when I first started. Maybe I am and am just not noticing it. It's all in your head...amongst other things/voices.
