times have changed
i used to
at one point in my life
not so long ago
have many people to call
no matter what time of day
(but especially around midnight)
when something amazing
(or not so amazing)
happened in my life.
today however
that is not the case
my daughter read her first word
my four year-old
read the word "love"
from the coffee cup she was drinking milk out of
she didnt know it said love
she read the letters out loud
as i was doing dishes
i turned off the water so i could listen to her
knowing she didnt know i was listening
she continued
she sounded out the letters
and then blended them together
and sounded out the word "love"
a tear fell from my eye
i whiped it quick so she wouldnt see it
(as she thinks tears mean sadness)
then i went into the dining room to hug her
and asked her to repeat what she had just said
she showed me how she sounded it out
and she smiled
i dont know how to put into words
the feelings that went thru my body(or mind)whatever
i ust know
when this happens
you want to share it with the world
my world on this day is my daughter
noone else bears importance
like she does
noone else
shares my joy
she is what im here for
my reason for life
i couldnt be more proud

Wow, cool post! My kids ARE the reason I am here, for sure. Your own child has a direct link to your heart, a link that no one possess except them. I am happy you were listening.
... and this is why you live and breathe and wake tomorrow.
Lil red will learn to sound things out all over again, too. And they will sound new. And she will feel the importance that she bares, and want to share it with the world.
doesn't it suck to know that when your daughter finds out that the word love becomes something more than just sounding out four letters, there will be the most pain endured as a human.
